APMP Presentation Inputs Posted: 10 Months, 1 Week ago
I will be making a presentation to the APMP Conference on May 28th with a topic of Survival: A How-To Guide for the Independent Proposal Consultant.

I'd like to get inputs from anyone who wishes to give me one related to the topic above. What have been the areas of the most concern to you as an independent proposal consultant, where have you seen the most reward, and what might be your biggest concerns going forward assuming you intend to stay independent? If you aren't intending on remaining an independent why are you changing?

I will also be posting a survey to my website within the next two weeks to gather some inputs as well in a more objective manner and will use your inputs to build that survey.

Thanks in advance for all the support you may give to the effort!

Ken

Hi Ken,

I have had a pretty steady contract with one client for a pretty good while now but before I got this contract, I think developing new business was my biggest problem. It wasn't so much a question of finding new business, it was more a question of coordinating finishing the current contract, finding time to look for new work while working on the current assignment, and being able to make a commitment to a new client to begin on a certain date. There are almost always going to be some gaps. This is just one of the downsides to being independent.
